Poured in layers separated by cocoa lines, this shea butter bar is made with skin-soothing aloe vera liquid and tinted a burnt orange with powdered annatto seeds. The soap is scented with lavender, grapefruit, and rosemary essential oils reminiscent of an English flower and herb garden. The lavender essential oil is calming while the grapefruit essential oil helps tone oily skin.

INGREDIENTS: Olive oil, aloe vera liquid, coconut oil, shea butter, avocado oil, sodium hydroxide, and lavender, grapefruit, and rosemary essential oils.

Ingredient Properties:

  • Oils & Butters
    • Olive oil – Low cleansing property making mild and nourishing soaps suitable for babies or irritated skin. Used in most soap recipes, this oil is great for sensitive skin. High in healthy vitamins and antioxidants that help moisturize by improving water absorption and retention. Known to have anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties.
    • Coconut oil – Provides lathering and high cleansing properties. A staple in many soap recipes, this oil aids in creating a rich lather with large bubbles. High in lauric acid, this oil is an emollient (softens and conditions skin) and has antimicrobial properties that may protect against harmful microorganisms.
    • Shea butter – Adds a creamy balm-like lather to soap. Very high in fatty acids and contains the antioxidant vitamin E and A. Acts as an emollient to ease irritation and moisturize skin and coats the skin with a barrier that helps prevent moisture loss. Noted for rare allergic or other skin reactions.
    • Avocado oil – Mild cleaning properties in soap. Rich in omega-3 fatty acids and vitamins A, D, and E. Its anti-inflammatory properties lead to suggested use for eczema, acne, psoriasis, and elder skin.
  • Liquid
    • Aloe vera juice – Substituting aloe vera juice for the water in a soap recipe gives the bar super moisturizing power and makes the soap extra bubbly. In addition, aloe has anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, and antiviral qualities.
  • Saponification Agent
    • Sodium hydroxide – Soap cannot exist without lye. We use carefully weighed, food grade 100% sodium hydroxide (caustic soda, lye), NaOH, in our soaps.
  • Essential Oils
    • Lavender – This super important essential oil has a tranquil floral scent with anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties. When added to soap, these qualities can help settle irritated skin, soothe sunburns, and reduce scarring while reducing stress and anxiety and relieving headaches. Highly regarded as Generally Recognized As Safe (GRAS), this essential oil, when added to soap, is safe for sensitive skin.
    • Grapefruit – This essential oil has a sunny uplifting scent and potent antibacterial and antimicrobial properties. When added to soap, these qualities boost cleansing power and aid in toning oily skin.
    • Rosemary – This essential oil has a strong herbal evergreen scent and analgesic, antimicrobial, antiseptic and antispasmodic properties. When added to soap, rosemary essential oil can help relieve muscular aches, alleviate headaches, and sooth irritated skin while energizing the spirit and enhancing memory. Rosemary is thought to play a part in curtailing hair loss and encouraging growth.
  • Natural Additives – Clays, Powders, Botanicals, Other
    • Annatto seed powder – High in antioxidants and tocotrienol, a form of vitamin E, annatto seeds have antioxidant properties that help protect skin. Noted for promoting tanning and preparing the skin for sun exposure. Added to soap to naturally create beautiful yellow and orange colors.
    • Cocoa powder – Cocoa powder is rich in antioxidants, which help fight against damage from free radicals. The theobromine present in cocoa reduces the signs of ageing and gives skin a healthy glow by aiding skin cell renewal.
